Bloomsburg Falls to USC-Aiken in Baseball
AIKEN, SC--The Bloomsburg University baseball team fell 12-2 to 11th-ranked USC-Aiken at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on Thursday night.
Bloomsburg pitcher Casey Markey (York/ Dallastown) looked sharp in the early going, not allowing a hit in the first two innings of play. However, the Pacers broke out for four runs in the third inning. After retiring the first batter, Markey allowed a walk and a hits batsmen to put runners on first and second. Aiken then got three consecutive singles to make the score 3-0. After a strikeout, USC-Aiken's Ian Kowalchuk singled home Casey Derhak to make the score 4-0 after three innings of play.
USC-Aiken had a big inning in the fourth as well, scoring eight runs on seven hits. The big blow came from Pacer catcher Mark Joehnk who cleared the bases with a two RBI triple.
The Huskies got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Bloomsburg loaded the bases with nobody out after Rich Letts (Parkesburg/ Octorara), Kevin Plott(Mechanicsburg/ Cumberland Valley), and Jeremy Eck (Williamsport/Montoursville), all reached on walks to start the inning. After a double-play that brought in a run, Andy Bucher (Littlestown/ Littlestown)singled in a run to make the score 12-2.
With the loss the Huskies fall to 2-11, while USC-Aiken improves to 20-6 on the year. Bloomsburg will close out its spring break trip in Raleigh, NC on Saturday when they play a doubleheader at Shaw University. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m.
